I have been interested in working with people for a long time. My original training -as a teacher- and interests led me to work with youth groups and small groups of adults, but I realised that although developmentally aware I lacked the skills to be an effective “people helper” in any other form.

So, I retrained.

My curiosity regarding adult difficulties had been piqued after working for so long with the parents of “difficult “children and also working abroad long term in another culture.  As a Fieldworker in Asia I had become more aware of issues of displacement, trauma & loss. Culture shock, hostage situations, re-entry issues and Third Culture Kid syndrome are not often understood or addressed appropriately.

After a couple of basic taster courses I committed to a degree course in Counselling. During that training I spent several years with a Bereavement Counselling agency.  I learned a lot over these degree years but wanted to take my knowledge to a deeper level and so continued onto a 5- year MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy at Metanoia Institute. These studies included many practice hours and a Mental Health placement in Watford NHS with the central CMHT.

I now work locally in BUCKINGHAMSHIRE and using my therapeutic knowledge and experience as a lecturer/trainer/consultant and clinical supervisor as well as having my own Private Practice.

I enjoy being busy and attend many therapeutic conferences and courses as well as running similar. I have a supportive group of family and friends, so my free time is usually busy but I do take time out to enjoy some peace & quiet too.

I still have an active interest in Fieldwork and recently spent some time in Uganda researching the effect of displacement and trauma on the local population with a view to doing some trauma training in the future. My active faith supports me and gives a compassionate undergirding to my work and keeps me focused.
